Each workout is a potential expression of individual achievement. It really does not matter who is in class, who the coach is, the ultimate goal is to best the person you were yesterday. There is no looking around, thinking about someone else's form or rep count. Look inside yourself. Are you concerned with how you look in your minds eye or in the second hand eye of someone else? Focus on your own goals and achievement.
It would be hard to find a person who is 100% in either of those viewpoints. The pull of bettering yourself is a strong and valid goal - and praiseworthy. The quest for excellence in all fields is a reward in itself. It is nice to be recognized for an achievement or being good at something - the real person who needs to judge favorable on you and your actions is you.
Perfecting movement at very high power output is the quest. Being good at a specific area may limit the effectiveness in others modalities. Continuous improvement in movement and power output are methods for judging effectiveness. Being balanced in approach helps people be more capable of adapting to the situations life may throw at you.
Take a moment to consider what you are capable of today. Then think of what you would like to be capable of. Take a stand and decide to be responsible for your training to get there. Single minded focus to give 100% of what you have in every workout will get you there.
