Training is about self improvement. Questing to be better today than yesterday is the goal. We often train in groups where people cannot help but to compare themselves to others. These comparisons tend to get people focused on relative performance rather than self assessment. There will always be someone better than you at something. You need to focus on being better than you of yesterday.
Focus on your movements and your performance. Get better every day.
You have to care about people enough not to let them be weak. You don't show you care about people by having low standards. You don't respect people (or yourself) if you praise that which is not praiseworthy.
You demonstate your caring for people by holding them to a higher standard. You help peoople get better by pushing them. Take people to a places they would not have thought they could have gone.
It is the responsibility of the leadership of the tribe, group, culture to set the standard for the group. If the standard is just getting by, then exellence will not be the rule. Take a look around, surround yourself with people who will help you be better. Choose to be in a group of people chasing exellence. Where the standard is striving for excellence, then the culture is great.
It all turns around virtuosity. Virtuosity in coaching, training, programming and doing the work. There are no short cuts.
The responsibilty of your life is yours. Choose and act.
